I received a call from the hospital around 10:00 in the morning, asking if I could make my way there. They wanted the physiotherapist to show me some exercises for Grace, and they planned to take her back to the care home in the early afternoon. I arrived at 12:00 and helped Grace with her lunch. At 14:00, I met with the physiotherapist, after which Grace was taken straight back to the care home. On a side note, the paramedics were great – they even took my laptop bag for me – and were, of course, very kind to Grace and equally humorous.
Back at the care home, the nurses were wonderful. They were clearly attached to Grace and were so happy to see her, asking about what had happened. The whole transfer process between the hospital, paramedics, and care home was seamless, with instructions, medicine, and information on her medical state all being handed over. I am now off for a break.
Dutch people might think their health system needs some improvement, but in contrast to what I have experienced in the UK, it is amazing. It is professional, efficient, patient needs-focused, caring, and compassionate.
Later in the evening, I returned with some cake. Grace was in the living room, and the cake was shared amongst the residents.
