Reflecting on the year

Reflecting on the Year

It’s Christmas Eve, and I feel deeply optimistic. I have friends near and far, and I am so fortunate to have met and continue to know them. 2023 has been a good year, and I feel very positive, on a personal level, about 2024. The transition from my old life to a new one continues, bringing different challenges and opportunities. Career-oriented Dave is fading away, and hopefully, Author Dave is emerging. Since I turned 50, I’ve told myself many times that I need to live the best life I can over the next ten years. New chapters, new memories. I want to leave a positive footprint wherever I go and with whomever I am. When I write, I aim to make every word count—to ensure each word resonates with the reader.

Giving the Kids Some Space with Grace

This morning, I came into town and am sitting in Starbucks, writing this journal and planning to work on my third book. I feel very energized. I also need some time to myself. While it’s wonderful being with Grace, it’s important for me to have some space, just as it would be if Grace didn’t have dementia.

One reason for not going to the care home is to give the kids space to see her without feeling uncomfortable about my presence.
