Grace is in pain

Grace is in Pain

I arrived to see Grace yesterday morning, and she didn’t seem well. She wouldn’t look me in the eye, and I suspected she was in pain. A couple of friendly nurses came to shower her, and I expressed my concerns, especially regarding the shower. They suspected she had stomach pain, and once they removed her underwar, it became clear she had diarrhoea. After they attended to her, she seemed fine; a smile returned to her face, and she loved the kisses I gave her.

Grace’s Diet and Swallowing

Later, a lady came to discuss Grace’s diet. I struggled with my Dutch because I’m pushing myself to be fluent. They’re worried about her swallowing and the risk of choking at night, as she often leaves food in the sides of her mouth. I can see the struggle ahead for Grace, and I think this year will be tougher for her.

Laurens is stuck in the Past

I’ve been reflecting on Laurens. The problem with the place is that it’s stuck in the past; the senior staff have been there for years, lacking fresh ideas. The main nursing staff are older, whereas at Pniel, there’s a mix, including younger staff. I don’t see the need for dedicated cooks at Laurens.
