Changing Grace’s Sleeping Routine
Grace is sleeping really well. We have changed her routine; unlike at Laurens, she is awake throughout the day and in bed by 8:00 PM. I can see Grace whenever I want throughout the day, with no designated visiting hours. The spacious room allows the nurses to kindly give me the option of serving lunch and dinner to Grace in her room. The whole setup feels much more relaxed and inclusive for families.
I am frustrated about Laurens. It’s all about timing.
My Wellness Routine
I’m developing a wellness routine now, including going to the gym, seeing the chiropractor for my back, and using the sunbed. I just need to incorporate some swimming for cardio purposes. I keep busy to fill my days and live life to the fullest. I am happy, and that’s the main thing. I love that I’m focused on Grace, Spanish, and my third book.
Thermostat Not Working
The thermostat for the central heating hasn’t worked for three nights in a row, so I’ve been getting up to use the toilet regularly because I’m cold. I need more blankets. I reflect on my time in the Himalayas in Nepal a couple of years ago, remembering how cold it was at night in uninsulated houses, with thick blankets covering me.
Grace’s Hair is Done
Today we took Grace to the hairdresser to get her hair sorted. Wow, it cost 180 euros! But Grace looks great again. The staff at Hizi Hair in Kralingen are so kind, helping lift Grace into and out of the chair while they wash her hair. For me, Grace doesn’t get many treats, but this is one.
Enjoying My Own Company
Is it odd to want to eat alone on a Saturday night? Reflecting on two to three years ago, I now enjoy my own company. After a long day with Grace, I crave some time to myself. I’m heading to Café Stobbe, just around the corner from the care home. The bartender at Café Stobbe is fantastic; he knows my background. When I arrive, he is really welcoming, as are the other staff. I get home to my cold apartment (with no heating), and as I have for consecutive nights, I fall asleep straight away.
