Grace has broken her hip!

I began my morning with a routine visit from the handyman, who was tasked with putting up my dartboard and TV. However, during the process, he accidentally dropped the dartboard and created a large hole in the skirting board. It’s frustrating that handymen rarely do a job properly that doesn’t require additional work.

My focus shifted when the care home called to inform me that Grace was unable to move her right leg and had a swollen hip. They requested that she undergoes another scan at the hospital, as the nurse suspected that her hip was broken. I followed the ambulance in my car as she was taken to the hospital. Despite my efforts, she arrived before me since the ambulance was given priority.

When I arrived at the hospital, the scan had already been completed, and I was informed that Grace had a clean break on her right hip. The image was evident, and I felt terrible for her; she must have been in so much pain. Consultations were held between the doctor, specialists, and the care home, and they recommended an immediate operation. Rehabilitation would be challenging due to her dementia, but given her good physical health, there was a high chance that she would recover.

Fortunately, the care home where she lived was also a rehabilitation center for physical injuries, so she could conveniently receive the physiotherapy she needed. She was administered painkillers and was in a cheerful mood. She was taken to the ward and offered some sandwiches, and I felt relieved to be with her. Despite her dementia, she remained the same sweet Grace I knew, and I felt grateful to have her in my life.

Finally, I returned home at 2100, exhausted but pleased that there was a path to recovery for Grace.
