Still Sick!
I’m still not well. I’ve been sick and spent most of the day in bed. I’m starting to wonder if it’s severe hay fever. However, when I come to the care home to see Grace, I feel a lot better within an hour. This has happened two nights in a row now.
Femke measures my blood sugar, and it’s well within the normal range. However, my blood pressure is a bit high at 135/90 instead of 120/80. I’m pretty sure this is due to my snoring and poor sleep. I’m going to make an appointment to see the doctor.
Mexico in 2024
I’ve used the British Airways voucher to pay for my return flight to Mexico in a year’s time. This means that no matter what happens, I am taking five weeks away from work next year. I’ll spend three weeks in Brazil/Argentina and two weeks in Mexico.
Grace is doing fine
Grace is comfortable, and I helped her with her dinner this evening. However, I understand that she doesn’t want to walk anymore. I still encourage her to sit in a regular dining chair for dinner and on the sofa with me while watching TV.
Controlling Grace’s breathing
Grace can sometimes have phases when she breathes heavily and rapidly. By lying close to her, I can help control her breathing by slowly inhaling and exhaling. It’s amazing how well it works. Additionally, she becomes more communicative during these times.
Dealing with a jobs worth
I’m dealing with a “jobs worth” – typically referring to someone who insists on strictly adhering to the requirements or rules of their job, even if it seems excessive or unnecessary. This phrase describes someone who places great importance on following protocols and fulfilling their responsibilities, often to the point of being inflexible or unyielding.
It can be used to describe someone who strictly enforces rules, regulations, or procedures without considering the context or circumstances. Sometimes, it carries a negative connotation, suggesting that the person prioritizes bureaucratic procedures over practicality or common sense.
For example, if someone excessively focuses on minor details or insists on strictly following a protocol, even if it hampers efficiency or causes unnecessary delays, they may be described as “just doing their job’s worth.” It implies that they prioritize fulfilling their duties according to their job description, sometimes at the expense of flexibility or adaptability.
